Lady Luck

Fortuna, called Tyche by the Greeks, is the goddess of fortune.
She represents more than just good fortune:
  • With a rudder, she symbolises the divine guide, steering fate;
  • With a ball or the wheel of time, she is a reminder that fortune, good or bad, never lasts;
  • With the cornucopia also known as Plutus, or the horn of Amalthea, she represents the plentiful gifts of fortune.

I still haven't figured out what the stem in her hand (in this picture) is for though. Maybe just to scratch her own back from time to time (those wings are bound to tickle).

Traffic Jam

Avoiding peak hour traffic (and having a sleep-in option) were big considerations when I first set my work hours at the bookshop. That doesn't mean it is always possible to avoid Perth's peak hour traffic though.

As I came to a standstill,
for the fourth time this evening,
in the fast lane of the freeway-cum-carpark
I was ever so grateful for the novelty of it all.

A special kind of zen gene is required to face the hellish norm of peak hour traffic... and very few Perth drivers exhibit that kind of patience. Some of them do have very fancy cars though!

Avatarted

In creating this avatar I wasted more time tonight than I will admit to. For the time and effort invested, I am still only vaguely recognisable. Sure, anonymity is the whole point of the avatar...
but I still prefer my fruit face:

Shiny me created with portrait illustration maker.

My fruit face has more character.

After the digital dress up session I stumbled across this blog entry featuring a whole bunch of avatar creation links. Uh oh! I fear this is only the first chunk of time wasted in revisiting the doll fascination of my youth.

Avatarting adds to a lengthening list of
Schedule Avoidance Measures.

Right Decision

It's always nice to know when I am "right".

A lady told me today that moving back to Tasmania is the right decision. She said that when we house hunt, we will look at three houses - close to the water - and that pressure will be put on us to make a decision about one of them. The lady said to take our time with the decision as there would be a good outcome.

The lady who told me all this - out of the blue, as she put her change in her purse - was a first time customer and she had just bought a book on my recommendation. So, although skeptical about clairvoyance, in the spirit of quid pro quo I will run with her prediction... and continue to do what I would otherwise do ;-)

Moue

Merriam Webster's Word of the Day:
moue • \MOO\ • noun - a little grimace, pout

  1. a triumph in elegance
  2. this is not onomatopoeia
  3. but it should be:
    pronunciation aside, if the action required to create the moue had an accompanying sound... it would so be "moo".
