Losers Are Winners

I don't gamble and I'm a glass-half-full kinda person.

Over the last couple of days I have had to reassess those beliefs:
Yesterday at work, along with each of my team mates, I threw in five bucks for a group ticket in last night's 70 Million Lotto Draw.
This morning a colleague delivered the good news. A few of our numbers were lucky and, although not instant millionaires, a small win is still a win! Yay, right?

In fact, we had 'won' less than the cost of the ticket.
Yes, much better than a complete loss - but, mathematically speaking, it is clearly still a loss. No two ways about it. So on review:
