At Mother's Day lunch with the in-laws today, I watched my 4 year old niece mentally work through a version of this flow chart. A vigilant Mum and Gran were there to override the decision she may have otherwise reached. Once that chip fell from her plate and became tainted by floor, Miss 4 never stood a chance of retrieving and eating it ... but the thought definitely crossed her mind.
